Top 10 questions to ask your wedding florist.

The must have guide once you have picked your wedding florist.

Peonies or Phalaenopsis? Roses or Ranunculus? And what or who is Dusty Millar? Flower choices are endless and slightly confusing at the start, so it's vital to find and book a florist who understands your vision and has a design style you love! To make sure you are in awe of your wedding flowers and remove the worry in the lead up, grab a cuppa with your potential florist and go over these essential questions….

  1. Is my wedding date available?

Is the first and most important question. Popular florists get booked up to 2 years in advance so date checking is the first thing to do when getting in touch.

  1. Do you have a minimum spend?

Be honest about you budget at the start, this doesn’t mean a florist will inflate their pricing it means they can advise you what you’ll get for your money and manage your expectations. We have a set price list to work from so you know what our pricing structure is from the start. There is no point in us spending time creating a bespoke design if you aren’t wanting to spend what that entails, it just wastes your time and we want you to be excited about your wedding florals right from the initial chat! Here at SuperNova, we have a minimum spend of £5000 for busy Summer Saturday’s which can be made up of florals and hire products and are happy to look at and help you maximise your allocated budget in the best way to suit your wedding style and venue.

3. How long have you been in business?

Asking how long your florist has been in business will help you gauge their success. If they’ve been in business for at least a few years, you’re probably looking at a winner. This is our fifteenth year of SuperNova and that is such a testament of our success. You’ll want to follow up with something like “how many weddings have you done?”, to make sure they’re familiar with large-scale orders and can create the desired look you want. Be aware of someone promising you a large scale arrangement at a fraction of the price, we all buy from the same flower markets and have to use so many stems to create a large arrangement, this simply cannot be done at a fraction of the price some promise….

4. What is your floristry design style?

You’ll want your florists design style to match up with the theme of your wedding - we have a team of florists working for us here at SuperNova and combined experience of over 70 years. As designers we can create any look you wish but our forte lies in elegant wedding florals, if you want something statement and glamorous or relaxed and boho, we will always give you the best blooms created with an elegant and timeless style.

5. Can I review your portfolio?

This will give you the chance to see what your florist has accomplished in the past. When looking through make note of what aspects of particular arrangements you love. You’ll also want to know if they've decorated your venue(s) before as they may have suggestions on what works well in the space and what your venues allow or dont allow. We are proud to showcase our work on our social media platforms, on our website gallery and in house at our design appointments.

6. What flowers do you recommend?

Let your florist know your overall vision, colour scheme and budget to get the ball rolling. Most brides feel a little indicated by their wedding flowers as their knowledge isn’t huge no specific blooms, luckily we know way more about flowers than most so let us show off our expertise and introduce you to some options that you hadn’t even considered. If you have a fav flower we’ll always try to incorporate this for you.

7. What flowers are in season on our wedding date?

Flowers change from season to season so let us guide you here and find suitable alternatives if required.

8. Do you provide additional decorative hire items?

Ask if they can provide the vases, votives and/or linens for your wedding flowers. It makes it so much easier if you can hire everything in one place, it means your florist also knows what they are working with to ensure flower sizes work with vases and that the overall design is styled to compliment it all perfectly. We have a vast amount of decor hire stock in house so can provide everything you could possibly want for your wedding day.

9. What is your deposit and when is my final balance due?

Once you have been mesmerised by our ideas you really want to secure the date asap, our availability changes daily and we’d hate to disappoint you by not being available for your wedding day.

10. Can I make changes?

It is our clients prerogative to change their minds lol and we are always happy to adapt your design as you progress through your planning with us. If you go shopping and change from Blush pinks to Forrest Greens or from round tables to banquet tables - is this ok? Of course it is :) we want you to buy with confidence so are very flexible in changes up until 6 weeks before your wedding date, after this we can make smaller changes/additions but will have tied up your overall style and spec.
